Approaching God with Confidence: Embracing Holiness through Jesus

Dear brothers and sisters, 

Today's reflection centers on Psalms 24:3-4, which poses the question, "Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place?" The answer is found in the following verses: "He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully." This passage highlights the importance of holiness and purity in our approach to God.

Psalms 24 continues by declaring the majesty and sovereignty of God, who is the King of glory, worthy of all honor and praise. As we contemplate His greatness, we are reminded of the privilege and responsibility of coming into His presence with reverence and awe.

In Mark 5:21-43, we encounter two powerful stories of healing and restoration, as Jesus demonstrates His authority over sickness and death. Through these miracles, Jesus reveals Himself as the source of true wholeness and life, inviting us to approach Him with faith and confidence in His power to heal and save.

Mark 6:1-6 depicts Jesus returning to His hometown of Nazareth, where He is met with skepticism and rejection. Despite His miraculous deeds, the people fail to recognize His true identity as the Son of God. This passage reminds us that it is only through faith in Jesus that we can approach God with confidence, acknowledging Him as our Savior and Lord.

In Exodus 27 and Exodus 28, God provides instructions for the construction of the altar and the priestly garments, emphasizing the importance of holiness and reverence in worship. Through these symbols, God establishes a framework for approaching Him with reverence and humility, recognizing the need for purity and sanctification.

As we ponder these passages, let's acknowledge that holiness and the confidence to approach God are found solely through Jesus. Let's endeavor to purify our actions and intentions, fully yielding to His transformative grace. In doing so, may His Spirit shape us, enabling us to stand in God's presence with deep reverence and awe.

PRAISE AMIDST ADVERSITY: TRUSTING GOD'S DELIVERANCE

Today's devotion revolves around the theme of trusting God's deliverance and finding reasons to praise Him even in the midst of adversity. This message will unfold as we explore Psalms 9:13–20, Matthew 12:1-21, and Genesis 31.

Cry for Deliverance (Psalms 9:13–20): The psalmist, in the face of affliction and opposition, cries out for God's grace and deliverance. This resonates with the human experience of facing challenges and enemies. Yet, even in the midst of turmoil, the psalmist expresses confidence in God's righteous judgement and the ultimate triumph of justice.

Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:1-21): In Matthew 12, Jesus confronts legalistic interpretations of the Sabbath, emphasising mercy over sacrifice. He heals a man's withered hand, demonstrating His authority over the Sabbath. The fulfilment of Isaiah's prophecy in Jesus portrays Him as the chosen servant who brings justice and hope.

Jacob's departure from Laban (Genesis 31) Genesis 31 narrates Jacob's departure from Laban, marking a crucial moment in his journey. Amidst Laban's deceit and mistreatment, Jacob experiences God's guidance and protection. The narrative reflects the theme of deliverance from challenging circumstances.

Trusting God's Deliverance: As we journey through life, we encounter various forms of affliction, opposition, and challenges. Yet, like the psalmist, we are called to cry out to God in confidence, trusting His deliverance. Whether facing legalism, unjust treatment, or the complexities of human relationships, the overarching theme is one of trusting God's providence. In times of adversity, our praise is a powerful testimony of our trust in His deliverance. May this message encourage us to lift our voices in praise, even when facing challenges, knowing that our God is gracious, just, and faithful. Amen.
