Authority In Action: Navigating Battles and Blessings

Bible verse portrait of Mark 1:22.
Dear brothers and sisters

Today's reflection begins with Mark 1:22, where it is written, "And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes." This verse sets the stage for our exploration of Jesus' authority and its impact on our lives.

In Psalms 22:1-11, we see the psalmist crying out to God in distress, yet also expressing confidence in His power to deliver. Despite the challenges we face, let us trust in God's authority to overcome every obstacle and bring us to victory.

Mark 1:1-28 portrays Jesus' ministry, beginning with His baptism by John the Baptist and His subsequent proclamation of the kingdom of God. Throughout this passage, we witness Jesus' authority over demons, sickness, and sin, demonstrating His divine power and sovereignty.

In Exodus 17, the Israelites face their first battle against the Amalekites, with Moses interceding for them on the hilltop. Through Moses' raised hands, we see God's authority at work, granting victory to His people even in the midst of conflict.

Exodus 18 recounts the arrival of Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, who advises him on delegation and leadership. Through Jethro's counsel, Moses learns to share the burden of leadership and grow in authority as he oversees the affairs of the Israelites.

As we reflect on these passages, let us recognize that authority is not simply about power and control, but about stewardship and service. Like Jesus, may we use our authority to bring healing, freedom, and hope to those around us. And like Moses, may we learn to navigate the battles and blessings of life with humility and wisdom, trusting in God's authority to guide us every step of the way.
