Dearly Beloved,
Day 32: Chronological Bible in One Year Devotionđđ
The story of Exodus begins with the Israelites enslaved in Egypt, facing increasing oppression from Pharaoh. Amidst the suffering, God begins to set the stage for their deliverance by calling Moses. Exodus 1 and 2 reveal the difficult conditions of Israelâs bondage and introduce us to Mosesâ miraculous preservation as a baby. Though he was born at a time when Pharaoh had ordered the death of all Hebrew male babies, Godâs hand of protection was upon him. Mosesâ life was spared, and he was raised in Pharaohâs household, unknowingly being prepared for the unique calling God had on his life.
In 1 Chronicles 6:1-3, we see a genealogy reference to the Levites, including Moses and his brother Aaron, tracing their lineage back to Levi. This connection emphasizes the priestly heritage of Moses and Aaron, foreshadowing their roles as leaders and intercessors for the people of Israel. God had been orchestrating this plan through their lineage long before their calling became evident.
In Exodus 3, Moses, now an adult living in Midian, encounters God through the burning bush. This event becomes the turning point in Mosesâ life. God reveals Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and shares His plan to deliver the Israelites from Egypt. Moses is chosen as the leader through whom God will perform this great act of deliverance. However, Moses is hesitant. He feels inadequate and questions his ability to fulfill such a monumental task.
Exodus 4:1-17 details Mosesâ struggle with fear and self-doubt. He raises multiple objections, concerned that the people will not believe him or that he lacks the speaking ability to confront Pharaoh. But God reassures Moses, giving him signs to perform and promising to be with him. God even appoints Aaron, Mosesâ brother, to speak on his behalf. Despite Mosesâ weaknesses, Godâs calling remains firm, and He equips Moses with everything he needs to succeed.
This passage speaks to the heart of our own insecurities. Like Moses, we often feel unworthy or incapable of carrying out Godâs plans for our lives. Yet God does not call the equipped; He equips the called. He works through our weaknesses to display His strength and power. When God calls us to step out in faith, He also provides the resources, the words, and the people we need to accomplish His purpose.
Godâs call to Moses reminds us that He hears the cries of His people and responds with a plan for deliverance. Though we may not feel prepared or confident, Godâs presence with us is what guarantees our success. Our task is to trust Him, just as Moses eventually did, despite his initial fears. When we say "yes" to Godâs calling, we become vessels through which He can work mightily to bring about His will.
Prayer: Father, thank You for calling me for Your purpose. Help me to trust in Your strength, even when I feel inadequate. Equip me to carry out Your plans, and remind me that Your presence is all I need to fulfill the tasks before me. Guide me and use me for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
