Holding on to God When Answers Are Hidden

Dearly Beloved, 

Day 202 – Chronological Bible's Story in One Year Plan

Job 8, 9, & 10

Opening Scene:

As Job's suffering continues, another friend, Bildad, speaks. He believes God's justice means Job must have sinned. Job responds by acknowledging God's greatness while honestly expressing his confusion and longing for answers.

The Story Unfolds:

In Job 8, Bildad insists that God is always just and argues that Job's children must have died because of their own sins. He urges Job to repent, convinced that God will restore him if he is truly innocent. Bildad's mistake is assuming he fully understands God's ways and the reason for Job's suffering.

In Job 9, Job agrees that God is just, powerful, and sovereign over creation. Yet he feels helpless because no one can stand before God on equal terms. Job longs for someone who could stand between him and God—a mediator who could plead his case. This longing points forward to Jesus Christ, our perfect Mediator.

In Job 10, Job pours out his heart before God. He questions why he was born if life would bring such suffering, yet he continues speaking directly to God. Even in his confusion, Job refuses to abandon his relationship with the Lord.

Spiritual Insight:

God's wisdom is far greater than ours. We may not always understand His purposes, but we can trust His character.

Job's desire for a mediator finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ, who reconciles us to God and intercedes for us.

Life Application:

When life doesn't make sense, continue talking to God rather than turning away from Him. Honest faith seeks God even without immediate answers.

Be careful not to assume you know why others are suffering. Extend compassion instead of judgment.

Prayer:

Lord God, thank You that through Jesus I have a perfect Mediator who brings me into Your presence. When I cannot understand what You are doing, help me to trust Your wisdom and continue seeking You with an honest heart. Fill me with compassion toward those who are hurting. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Challenge of the Day:

Spend a few minutes thanking Jesus for being your Mediator and Advocate before the Father. Then pray for someone who is struggling, asking God to strengthen and encourage them without making assumptions about their circumstances.
