Day 140 of Bible in One Year Devotion:
In Psalms 64, David cries out to God for protection from the wicked. Despite the plots and schemes against him, David’s trust in God's justice and protection shines through. He knows that the righteous will ultimately rejoice and take refuge in the Lord. This psalm reminds us to rely on God's strength and justice, even when faced with adversity.
In John 11:1-44, we witness the powerful story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. This miraculous event not only displays Jesus' divine authority over life and death but also His deep compassion. Jesus wept with those who mourned, showing His empathy and love. His declaration, "I am the resurrection and the life," encourages us to trust in His power to bring life and hope into our darkest situations.
1 Samuel 2:27-36 and 1 Samuel 3 recount the story of young Samuel being called by God. Despite the corrupt environment under Eli’s sons, Samuel remains obedient and responsive to God's call. His willingness to listen and act on God's word marks the beginning of his significant role as a prophet. This narrative emphasizes the importance of being attentive and obedient to God's voice, no matter our circumstances.
In 1 Samuel 4, we see the consequences of Israel's disobedience and lack of faith. The Ark of the Covenant is captured, and Eli’s sons are killed, demonstrating the severe repercussions of straying from God’s commands. This chapter serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of faithfulness and the dangers of complacency in our spiritual lives.
As we reflect on these passages, let us take refuge in God’s protection like David, trust in Jesus’ power to bring life like Mary and Martha, and remain attentive and obedient to God’s voice like Samuel. May we learn from Israel’s mistakes and strive to remain faithful and upright in heart.
Prayer: Lord, help us to trust in Your protection and justice. Strengthen our faith to believe in Your power to bring life and hope. Grant us the attentiveness and obedience of Samuel, and keep us faithful to Your commands. In Jesus' name, Amen.
