Day 305 – Chronological Bible's Story in One Year Plan
Romans 14–16; Psalm 90
Opening Scene
The sun rises over a city where believers gather from different backgrounds, carrying different convictions about food, sacred days, and acceptable practices. One considers himself strong in faith; another trembles with uncertainty. Paul calls them both to remember that they belong to the same Lord. Beyond their disputes stands eternity: Psalm 90 pictures generations passing like grass that flourishes in the morning and withers by evening. Against life’s brevity, God’s people must learn to love wisely, serve faithfully, and seek the Lord’s lasting favour.
The Story Unfolds
Romans 14 warns believers against despising or judging one another over disputable matters. One eats freely; another abstains. Each must act unto the Lord, for none lives or dies unto himself. Every believer will stand before God’s judgment seat. Therefore, we must stop placing stumbling blocks before others and pursue peace and mutual edification. The kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Romans 15 calls the strong to bear the infirmities of the weak rather than please themselves. Christ did not live to please Himself; therefore, believers must follow His example. Scripture gives hope through patience and comfort, while God grants unity so that His people may glorify Him with one voice. Paul describes his ministry to the Gentiles and his desire to carry the gospel where Christ has not been named. He also asks the Roman believers to join him in prayer.
In Romans 16, Paul commends faithful servants, greets fellow believers by name, warns against those who cause divisions, and celebrates the God who strengthens His people through the gospel of Jesus Christ. The letter closes by directing all glory to the only wise God.
Psalm 90 contrasts God’s eternity with humanity’s frailty. A thousand years are as yesterday in His sight; human life passes like a watch in the night. Moses pleads for mercy, wisdom, and satisfaction in God’s steadfast love. His prayer, “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom,” calls us to live purposefully before eternity.
The connection is clear: because our days are brief, we must not waste them on needless quarrels, pride, or division. We should use our time to build up others, pursue peace, spread the gospel, and glorify God together. The eternal God gives meaning to our fleeting days through lives shaped by Christ’s love.
Spiritual Insight
God calls His people to unity without demanding uniformity in every personal conviction. Christ is Lord of every believer, and each must answer to Him. Psalm 90 reminds us that our time is limited, making love, reconciliation, service, and gospel witness urgent priorities. Wisdom begins when we see our days in the light of God’s eternity and seek His favour above all else.
Life Application
Do not judge fellow believers over disputable matters. Choose words and actions that build others up. Bear patiently with those who differ from you, pray for the spread of the gospel, and use each day for what honours God. Seek His wisdom before your time passes.
Prayer
Eternal God, teach me to number my days and live with wisdom. Deliver me from pride, needless disputes, and actions that weaken others’ faith. Help me pursue peace, serve faithfully, and glorify You with fellow believers. Establish the work of my hands and let my life bear lasting fruit for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge of the Day
Set aside one disagreement that is not essential to the gospel, and take a step towards peace with another believer. Use some time today to encourage someone or share the hope of Christ. Remember: a life spent in love, unity, and faithful service carries eternal significance.
