DAY 293 – CHRONOLOGICAL BIBLE'S STORY IN ONE YEAR PLAN
1 CORINTHIANS 5–7 & PSALM 78
Opening Scene
Imagine a family gathered around an ancient fire as an elder recounts how God delivered their ancestors, parted the sea, and provided water in the wilderness. The children listen, learning that God's mighty works must never be forgotten. Yet generations can forget His goodness and turn from His ways. In Corinth, a church blessed with spiritual gifts tolerates sin and struggles with relationships and personal choices. Paul calls them back to holiness, reminding them that belonging to Christ must transform how they live.
The Story Unfolds
In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul rebukes the church for tolerating sexual immorality. They must remove the unrepentant offender from their fellowship, seeking the church's purity and ultimately the person's restoration. A little leaven leavens the whole lump; therefore, believers must live as people made new through Christ.
In chapter 6, Paul condemns believers taking one another to court before unbelievers and warns against unrighteousness. The body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, for believers are bought with a price. Therefore, they must glorify God in their bodies.
In chapter 7, Paul addresses marriage, singleness and difficult personal circumstances. Each believer should honour God in their calling, practise faithfulness in marriage, and live with undivided devotion to the Lord. Whatever our circumstances, our lives belong to Him.
Psalm 78 recounts Israel's history: God's wonders in Egypt, His deliverance through the sea, His provision in the wilderness, and the people's repeated rebellion. The psalmist commands God's people to teach His works to their children so that future generations may set their hope in Him, remember His deeds, and keep His commandments. Yet God remains merciful and ultimately chooses David to shepherd His people.
Spiritual Insight
These readings reveal that remembering God's grace must lead to a transformed life. Israel forgot God's works and rebelled; Corinth risked dishonouring Christ by tolerating sin and misusing freedom.
God's mercy is never permission to remain in disobedience. Christ purchased us; therefore, our bodies, relationships and choices must honour Him. Likewise, faith must be taught through words and lived example so that future generations know the Lord.
A people who remember God's faithfulness must demonstrate that remembrance through holiness, obedience and faithful living.
Life Application
Examine your conduct, relationships and private choices. Reject what dishonours Christ, pursue purity, and treat others with integrity. Remember God's goodness daily and teach His truth through both your words and your example.
Prayer
Father, thank You for redeeming me through Christ. Help me honour You in my body, relationships and decisions. Deliver me from tolerating sin, and give me a faithful heart that remembers Your goodness. May my life and words lead others, especially the next generation, to trust and obey You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Challenge of the Day
Identify one area of your life that needs greater obedience to God. Take a practical step towards change, and share one testimony of God's faithfulness with someone who needs encouragement.
