Day 312: Chronological Bible in One Year Devotional -
Scripture Reading: Acts 3; 4; 5.
The story continues from the upper room to the temple courts, where the power of the Holy Spirit bursts forth through the apostles. Peter and John, walking to pray, encounter a lame man at the temple gate called Beautiful. What money could not give him, the name of Jesus did. At Peter’s word, the man rose and walked—healed instantly by the power of faith in Christ’s name.
This miracle drew the crowd’s attention, not to Peter and John, but to Jesus—the resurrected Lord whose power transforms lives. When the rulers, priests, and Sadducees tried to silence them, Peter declared fearlessly that the healing came through Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the One they crucified but whom God raised from the dead.
Though imprisoned and threatened, the apostles refused to stop preaching. They had seen the risen Savior; they had experienced the Spirit’s fire. No earthly power could intimidate hearts set ablaze by heaven. When the believers gathered to pray for more boldness, the place was shaken, and they were all filled again with the Holy Spirit. Fear was replaced by faith; timidity by testimony.
Even in the midst of deceit, as in the case of Ananias and Sapphira, God’s holiness was revealed. The Church learned that divine power must be matched with purity of heart. Yet, through it all, the gospel spread with unstoppable force. Miracles multiplied, the sick were healed, and the oppressed were delivered—all in the name of Jesus.
The early believers remind us that the Christian life is not meant to be lived in human strength. The same power that healed the lame man and emboldened the apostles is available to every believer today. When we act in the authority of Jesus’ name, we become instruments of His transforming grace.
Personal Reflection: The courage of Peter and John challenges us to live boldly for Christ, even when it is unpopular or dangerous. We're reminded that the name of Jesus carries unmatched power and authority—power to heal, restore, and save. Our calling is to speak and live that name fear.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the power in Your name that brings healing, hope, and salvation. Fill me with boldness to proclaim Your truth and live with integrity before You. Let my life reflect Your glory and power in every situation. Strengthen me to stand firm in faith, always. Amen.
