Unstoppable Faith in the Face of Fire

Bible verse of the day is Acts 7:55

Dearly Beloved,

Day 313: Chronological Bible in One Year Devotional -

Scripture Reading: Acts 6, 7, and 8:1.

Flowing from Day 312, the early Church continues to grow in power, unity, and boldness. Yet, as the light of Christ spreads, darkness begins to resist. The believers face persecution, but the fire of faith only burns brighter.

In Acts 6, the apostles appoint seven faithful men to help with the practical needs of the community, among whom Stephen stands out — “a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit.” His ministry of wisdom and miracles draws the attention of opposition. False accusations are raised against him, but Stephen’s face shines like that of an angel, revealing a man whose peace is rooted in heaven, not earth.

Acts 7 records his courageous defense before the Sanhedrin — a sermon that traces God’s faithfulness through Israel’s history and exposes their resistance to the Holy Spirit. Stephen’s words cut to the heart, but rather than repent, the crowd grows furious. Yet as stones fly, Stephen sees Jesus standing at the right hand of God — not sitting, but standing — to welcome His faithful witness home. His final words echo Christ’s own: “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.”

Acts 8:1 marks a turning point — persecution scattered the believers. Yet, instead of silencing the gospel, it spread the fire further. The death of Stephen became a seed that birthed greater boldness. Even Saul, who consented to his death, would later encounter the same Christ Stephen saw in glory.

Personal Reflection: Stephen’s story reminds us that true faith isn’t proven in comfort but in conviction. When challenges come, will you stand firm like Stephen, filled with grace and truth? Pray to see beyond earthly troubles and fix your gaze on Jesus, knowing His glory outweighs all suffering.

Prayer: Lord, fill me with the boldness of Stephen and the compassion of Philip. Let Your Spirit guide me in truth and empower me to stand firm when my faith is tested. May my life bear witness to Your grace and advance Your kingdom wherever You send me. Amen.
