DAY 296 – CHRONOLOGICAL BIBLE'S STORY IN ONE YEAR PLAN
1 CORINTHIANS 15–16 & PSALM 81
Opening Scene:
The sun rises over an empty tomb. The grave that seemed to seal the end of Jesus' earthly life cannot hold Him. The risen Christ has appeared to His followers, and their despair gives way to hope. Yet Paul writes to a church still facing division, confusion and the daily demands of Christian service. He reminds them that resurrection is not merely a future promise; it is the foundation of their faith today. Psalm 81 adds God's call to listen and obey, that His people may walk in the fullness of His purpose.
The Story Unfolds
In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul declares the Gospel: Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures. He appeared to witnesses, including Paul himself. If Christ has not risen, faith is vain; but Christ is risen, the firstfruits of those who have died. Death will not have the final word. At the last trumpet, the dead will be raised incorruptible, and mortality will put on immortality. Therefore, Paul declares, “Be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.”
In chapter 16, Paul turns from resurrection hope to practical faithfulness. He instructs the church concerning the collection for believers in need, makes travel plans, and urges them to watch, stand firm in the faith, be courageous and strong. Yet strength must be governed by love: “Let all your things be done with charity.”
Psalm 81 calls God's people to sing, remember their deliverance from Egypt, and listen to His voice. God laments that Israel would not hear Him or walk in His ways. Had they obeyed, He would have subdued their enemies and satisfied them with the finest wheat and honey from the rock.
Spiritual Insight
Christ's resurrection gives believers an unshakable hope; Psalm 81 shows that this hope calls for obedient living. Because death is defeated, our labour in the Lord is not in vain. Because God has redeemed us, we must listen to His voice rather than harden our hearts.
The resurrection assures us of the future, while obedience shapes our walk today. Faith must produce steadfast service, generosity, courage and love.
The risen Christ gives us hope beyond the grave and purpose for every day before it.
Life Application
Stand firm when faith is tested. Serve God faithfully, give generously, and let love govern your strength. Listen carefully to Scripture and obey promptly. Do not allow stubbornness to rob you of the blessings found in walking with God.
Prayer
Risen Lord, thank You for conquering death and securing my hope. Make me steadfast in faith, faithful in service and generous in love. Deliver me from a hardened heart, and teach me to hear and obey Your voice. May my labour honour You until the day I see You face to face. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Challenge of the Day
Complete one task for God's glory that you have been postponing. Encourage someone who is weary, give to someone in need, and choose one clear instruction from Scripture to practise today.
