Right Beginnings, Mixed Endings & The Call to Stay True

2 Kings 12:2 is the Bible verse of the day
Dearly Beloved,

Day 116 – Chronological Bible Story in One Year Plan; 2 Kings 12, 13, & 14

Opening Scene:

A young king rises to the throne, guided by a godly mentor. The temple lies in disrepair, but hope is renewed as restoration begins—not just of a building, but of worship.

The Story Unfolds:

Joash becomes king of Judah under the guidance of Jehoiada the priest. He does what is right in the eyes of the Lord and sets his heart on repairing the temple. With organization and accountability, the work progresses, and the house of God is restored.

However, after Jehoiada’s death, Joash’s direction changes. He listens to ungodly counsel, turns away from the Lord, and even orders the death of Zechariah, the son of his former mentor. What began well ends in compromise, and judgment follows.

Meanwhile, in Israel, Jehoahaz and later Jehoash reign. Despite ongoing idolatry, God shows mercy and gives Israel moments of deliverance because of His compassion.

Elisha, nearing the end of his life, gives a prophetic word of victory to King Jehoash. Even after his death, a miracle occurs when a dead man is revived upon touching Elisha’s bones—demonstrating that God’s power is not limited by time.

Later, Amaziah, king of Judah, begins well but falls into pride after success. He challenges Israel unnecessarily and suffers defeat. His story echoes a recurring theme: good beginnings do not guarantee faithful endings.

Spiritual Insight:

Starting well is important, but finishing well is essential. Consistency in obedience matters more than temporary success.

Also, influence matters. The people you listen to can shape your direction—for good or for harm.

Life Application:

Stay grounded in your walk with God, regardless of who is around you or what season you are in. Don’t let success lead to pride or compromise.

Be mindful of your influences. Surround yourself with people who encourage your faith and keep you aligned with God’s truth.

Prayer:

Lord, help me not only to start well but to finish well. Keep me consistent in my walk with You and guard my heart from pride and wrong influences. Strengthen me to remain faithful in every season. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Challenge of the Day:

Reflect on your spiritual journey—are you consistent, or only strong in certain seasons? Take a step today to strengthen your commitment to God for the long run.
