Trusting God in Crisis & The Danger of Turning Away

2 Kings 18:5 is the Bible verse of the day.
Dearly Beloved,

Day 118 – Chronological Bible Story in One Year Plan; 2 Kings 18, 19, 20, & 21

Opening Scene:

A righteous king rises in Judah at a time of great threat. Armies gather, fear spreads, and the nation stands on the edge—but one man chooses to trust God completely.

The Story Unfolds:

Hezekiah becomes king and does what is right in the eyes of the Lord. He removes idols, restores true worship, and places his trust fully in God. When the Assyrian king threatens Jerusalem, mocking God and spreading fear, Hezekiah does something powerful—he takes the matter to God in prayer.

Through the prophet Isaiah, God responds with assurance. That very night, God strikes the Assyrian army, delivering Judah without battle. It is a victory that proves that trust in God is never in vain.

Later, Hezekiah falls ill, and God grants him healing and extends his life. However, after this blessing, pride begins to creep in. When envoys from Babylon visit, Hezekiah shows them all his treasures, revealing what should have been guarded. This act leads to a prophecy that future generations will face exile.

After Hezekiah, his son Manasseh reigns—and takes a drastically different path. He leads Judah into deep idolatry, evil practices, and rebellion against God, undoing much of the good his father had done. His reign becomes one of the darkest periods in Judah’s history.

Spiritual Insight:

Trust in God brings victory, even in impossible situations. Prayer is a powerful response to fear and threats.

However, a strong beginning or moment of faith does not eliminate the need for continued humility. Pride can undo what faith has built.

Life Application:

When faced with challenges, bring them to God in prayer instead of giving in to fear. Trust Him to fight your battles.

Also, guard your heart after success or breakthrough. Stay humble and dependent on God, knowing that consistency matters.

Prayer:

Lord God, help me to trust You fully in every situation. Teach me to bring my challenges to You in prayer. Keep my heart humble, even after victories, and help me to remain faithful in every season. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Challenge of the Day:

Take a current worry or challenge and intentionally commit it to God in prayer. Also, reflect on any area where pride may be creeping in and choose humility.
