In our passages
for today, we could understand that the kingdom of God has been established for
all believers to key into the opportunities it provides. The opportunities are;
taking up the cross and following Jesus. Jesus has in our earlier passage said
that we could do greater works than he had done, only if we believe. Someone
might ask what this cross is all about. There are many ways the cross can be
explained but in this context, it’s all about spreading the good news of Jesus
Christ to mankind, thereby calling them into repentance. For any believer who
could choose to do this kind of sacrifice, God will cherish such because that
is the whole essence of life, to receive your salvation and pass it on to
others. Let’s lay aside every weight and take up the cross and follow Jesus
Christ because the world we’re in now needs Jesus now more than before.
Verily! Verily!
Opposition is not inevitable as we take up this assignment, Psalms 9:1-6. There
are those who had been commissioned to stop the good news of Christ from
spreading. At times they come out openly to challenge us and sometimes in a
subtle manner but since carrying the cross is the will of God for us, they
can’t succeed because God will surely show us a way of escape. No wonder Jesus
told us in the book of Matthew 11:12 to keep pressing on despite oppositions.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I would love to carry this cross and follow
you but please give me the courage and boldness that I’m required to have for
this great kingdom task, Amen.
